Seminar: Photorealistic 3D Modelling

  • In this seminar, Mr Eugene Mak will share about creating geometrically accurate 3D models with photorealistic textures for mobile applications. He will briefly explain LiDAR and photogrammetry technologies and then focus on the strengths and weaknesses of each. In particular, he will introduce the practical applications and tips on applying these solutions based on the type of situations we may face. And he will also briefly talk about the downstream workflow and challenges. The technique he used is a balance between artistry and mechanics. He will illustrate how the quality of work early on can really reduce the overall downstream workload.

  • About the speaker:
Mr Eugene Mak obtained a BEng in Mechanical Engineering from Canada. Then he worked in aerospace engineering, designed the manufacturing methods for the Global Express business jet. He has been a commercial pilot in Hong Kong, operating the Boeing 777 since 2015. He has been formulating the current project for a number of years. But it’s during COVID-19 that he had the time to delve deeper into producing a complete mobile application to meet his objective.
