Inter- secondary School Virtual Reality Contest - Stories from Ancient China

The first Inter-secondary School Virtual Reality Contest will commence in September 2018. The topic of this VR contest is "Stories from Ancient China", letting students turn stories and fables from ancient China into VR applications so that more people can have an immersive experience of the life in ancient China.

This contest is organised by International STEAM Olympiad Association and co-organised by Department of Electronic and Information Engineering and Pao Yue-kong Library from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

 

Objectives

  • To nurture a creative, curious, and can-do mindset that help students acquire 21st century skills and overcome challenges in future.
  • To build a cultural learning ambience by encouraging students to explore more about topics related to ancient China.
  • To support STEM education by promoting VR technology to teachers and students.

Contest Results

The award ceremony for the Inter-secondary School VR Contest was held on 13 July 2019 in the Digital Visualisation Room (i-Space, 4/F). 12 secondary schools participated in the contest which ended in June 2019.  A total of 5 teams are shortlisted to the finalist in the contest. Deadline for VR Story Proposal Submission

Each team must submit the following information either in Chinese or English.

  1. A storyline less than 500 words
  2. A PowerPoint file illustrating VR Proposal (with no more than 10 slides) 
  3. A supplementary 2-min video clip to illustrate the VR Proposal (optional)

  1. A PowerPoint file (with no more than 20 slides) which contains the storyboard and contribution of each team member, etc

VR Story Presentation - Finals

Each team will be given 15 minutes to present and demonstrate their VR stories.

Rules and Regulations

  • There is no limit on the number of participating teams for each school. Each team should consist of 2-4 students.
  • Each team can only submit one VR story for the contest.
  • All entries must be original and have not been published in other occasions before. By submitting an entry, the participants warrant that the entry neither contains any third party copyrighted materials nor infringes the intellectual property rights of any third parties. Participants should also be aware that the content should not include obscene, violence, religion, politics or any other inappropriate content. The Organisers reserve the right to disqualify against any entry or team that violates the rules without prior notice.
  • The Organisers reserve the right to display the entries for exhibition and promotion purpose.
  • The Organisers reserve the right to announce and reveal the winners’ names and photos for promotion purpose.
  • Prizes are non-exchangeable, non-returnable and non-refundable in any situation.
  • By submitting an entry, the participants acknowledge that they have read and accepted the Rules & Regulations of the contest.
  • The Organisers reserve the right to amend and/or cancel the activities as well as the Rules & Regulations without prior notice.
  • In case of any dispute, the Organisers reserve the right of final decision.
