i-Space: Welcome

The Library’s i-Space is an innovation and collaborative space to turn your inspiration into ideas and something tangible. Consisting of the Digital Makerspace, Digital Visualisation Room, One Button Studio, and Digital Creativity Workstations, you can make use of the digital facilities in i-Space to create a myriad of things - from a video of yourself presenting your idea, to a VR game or even a prototype to showcase your ideas.

The project “i-Space: A Makerspace and Community for Students of All Backgrounds at the University Library” has won the Regional Silver Award in Asia-Pacific and Cultivating Curiosity Bronze Award of the QS Reimagine Education Awards.

Makerspace, sometimes called hackerspace, is a workspace where people can get together to inspire, make and create.  The Library’s Digital Makerspace provides hands-on workshops and technical support to encourage students from all disciplines to learn and operate the easy-to-use digital and fabrication tools.

Spaces

• Digital Makerspace
  Staff assisted services such as laser cutting, vinyl cutting and poster printing, along with a venue for MakerMindset@i-Space workshops.
• Digital Makerspace Plus​​
  An open learning environment equipped with self-service digital tools, including 3D printing, 3D scanning facilities and craft cutting machine.
• Digital Visualisation Room (DVR)
  Offering support for VR, Metaverse and 3D modelling and IoT Corner.
• Studios@Library
  Equipped with a wide range of hardware and software such as video conferencing facility to conduct online interviews or presentations, sound recording equipment & software for audio production, building a 360 virtual reality tour, and creation of virtual character & live animation.

• Digital Facilities
  The Digital Makerspace provides entry-level digital facilities to encourage students learn digital skills to construct knowledge proactively through getting hands-on learning experience and social interaction with other makers in the community.
• Digital Equipment for Loan​​
  Digital devices and equipment are available for lending at self-service kiosks located at i-Space and Multimedia Commons (3/F, North Wing), and Technical Support Desk (4/F North Wing, i-Space).

Whom to contact?

Should you require industrial grade facilities and equipment to further develop your prototype, you can approach the PolyU Industrial Centre (IC). IC is equipped with a complete collection of engineering facilities, equipment and technologies for staff and students to realize their research and project activities.
