A guide to introduce resources to find technical standards

Terminology

  • International Classification for Standards (ICS) codes

is a technical standard published by the International Organization for Standards (ISO) and serves as a structure for catalogues. Many platforms allow browsing/searching standards by ICS codes. Learn more about ICS.

  • Redline

refers to highlighted changes between versions of a standard.

How to login IHS via Multi-Factor Authentication

Login to IHS Engineering Workbench requires multi-factor authentication. You will need to install "Microsoft Authenticator" app on your mobile phone to facilitate the login. Details please refer to the guide on ITS' website.

IHS Engineering Workbench


IHS Engineering Workbench, formerly IHS Standards Expert, is a consolidated platform to provide access to the worldwide standards released by 400+ standard developing bodies. Our current subscription covers AATCC, ANSI, ASME, JIS(JSA), NFPA.

Searching in IHS

  1. Search standards by standard number or keywords
  2. Select the document title from the suggested list


     
  3. Click on the download icon to download the PDF files
  4. If the document is currently viewed by another user, you may add the record to the watchlist by clicking on the   icon and review it later at My Workspace   from the left-side bar on the home page

  5. Select Document History to view how the standard has been developed


     
  6. Select Related Documents to find relevant standards


     
  1. Click on Codes & Standards
     
  2. Search a topic in natural language


     
  3. Filter the results from the side bar, such as My Subscriptions, Publication Date, Publisher, Status, ICS Code, etc.
  4. If the document is currently viewed by another user, you may add the record to the watchlist by clicking on the   icon and review it later at My Workspace   from the left-side bar.
  1. Click on Advanced Search


     
  2. Refine the sources, e.g. Codes & Standards only, select the Standards Developing Organizations (SDO).

     
  3. The advanced query could help further limit the results, e.g. publication date, ICS codes, etc.
  4. Save this Search Configuration if you need to run the same search again.
  5. Save Query / Set Alert to set up an email notification if you wish to be notified of new standards matching your search query.
