A guide to introduce library audio and video resources

Introduction

Audiobooks have recently become a very popular way to “read” a book. With the text of books converted into audio files thus allowing users to consume content of a book through listening. Other than the list of featured online video resources listed below, the Library also subscribes to many more audio and video databases. You can refer to this full list.

EBSCOhost Audiobooks Collection

EBSCOhost Audiobooks Collection

offers one hundred thousand audiobooks from over a thousand major academic publishers and University Presses around the world.

EBSCOhost Audiobooks allow users to download the audiobooks and listen offline on their mobile devices. An EBSCO Audiobooks App (for iOS or Android) is required for offline listening.


To check out the audiobooks and listen offline, please follow the steps below:

1. Go to EBSCOhost Audiobooks. Log in with your NetID and NetPassword if you are off-campus.
2. Sign in with your NetID and NetPassword from the top right corner.
3. Click "Borrow" on any audiobook you are interested in. 
4. Click "Borrow" again in the pop-up message*. Sometimes you can select a borrowing period from the drop-down menu.
5. Click "Close" when the audiobook is checked out successfully.
6. Open the EBSCO Audiobooks App on your mobile device. Download and install the App (for iOS or Android) if you haven't done so.

7. Log in the app, and choose "Single Sign-On Login". Search and choose "Hong Kong Polytechnic University" from the list. Then sign in again with your NetID and NetPassword. 

8. The borrowed audiobook has been synchronized into your EBSCO Audiobooks App. Click the borrowed book.

9. Click "" to download the audiobook. The "" icon will change to "" once the audio is downloaded.

10. Click "" to listen to the audiobook offline.

11. Click "" to delete the audio you downloaded after you have finished listening. This will reduce the amount of data stored on your mobile device.
 

* If the audiobook you want to borrow is in use by another patron, you can place a hold on the title and download it when it becomes available. Click the "Place Hold" button and you are notified via the email address associated with your account when the audiobook is available to you.

HyRead Audiobooks

HyRead Audiobook

provides books in a variety of subjects, including language learning books for English, Japanese and Korean. Content of each book can be play aloud online.


Browse by category:

Please follow the steps below to read and listen to the audiobooks in your browser:

  1. Go to HyRead. Login with your NetID and NetPassword if you are off-campus.
  2. Choose an audiobook you are interested in.
  3. Click "Online reading".


     
  4. Click the "play" button  inside the audiobook (bottom right corner) to play the audio recording.

HyRead allows users to download the audiobooks and read offline on your mobile devices. Please follow the steps below: 

  1. Install HyRead 3 App on your iOS or Android device.
  2. Open HyRead 3 App on your device, swipe through the welcome screen and click "+ Add Library".
  3. Enter "香港理工大學", click " + ".
  4. Tick "香港理工大學" in "My Libraries" (Top left corner).
  5. Click  on the top menu bar.
  6. Click "Agree privacy policy", then click "Login"
  7. Sign in with our NetID and NetPassword.
  8. Swing left under the eBooks filter and click "Audiobooks".
  9. Select an audiobook that you are interested in, then click "Borrow".
  10. A Pop-up Box shows "Success" of your borrowing.
  11. Click  at the top right corner.
  12. Click "Download".
  13. Once downloaded, click the book. Click the "musical note" inside the audiobook to play the audio recording.

Steps to Check Due Date:

  1. Click  at the top right corner and choose "Borrowed".
  2. The number shows on the book cover is the borrowing day(s) remaining. 

            


Steps to Renew or Return Books:

  1. Click  at the top right corner and choose "Borrowed".
  2. Click "more" under the book cover.

       

  3. Click "Renew" or "Return".

Books from HyRead has limited copies for borrowing, you can check the availability of the book in the detail page:

            


If all copies are checked out, please follow the steps below to reserve the book

  1. Click "Reserve"

       

  2. Enter your email address. 
  3. Click "Confirm" on the popup message.
  4. You will receive an email once the reserved book is returned.
